FDC3 Certification

Proposal for FDC3 certification criteria & process.

There are 2 types of certification:

  1.  For an App:
  • Handles FDC3 context data
  • Raises FDC3 context data
  • Registered in a standard App Directory
  • Registers & Handles FDC3 Intents

      2. For a Desktop Agent:

  • Implements the FDC3 APIs (there can be different levels of coverage here)
  • Uses a standard App Directory
  • Federates with other Desktop Agents

Certification should be available for the most basic integrations.   So, an app that just handles FDC3 context data could say it is FDC3 certified.  After that, there could be a checklist for apps and desktop agents for support.  Ultimately, a tool could be added that could test against the various criteria.

Questions:

  • Should we have a process to verify certification? (IMHO - this seems best left to App and Platform developers, if we do our job of creating standards that make sense, along with good incentives for adoption, organizations will want to show that they are compliant).  Independent groups may test compliance and publish - but probably not the right line of work for us.
