An attribute describing the sub-type of the content of some resource. 

The value of an attribute of this type is equivalent to the major type in a MIME type (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_type). For example if a resource is of MIME type video/mpeg then the value of an attribute of this type describing that resource would be mpeg.
