What is Cloud Native?

Cloud native technologies empower organizations to build and run scalable applications in modern, dynamic environments such as public, private, and hybrid clouds. Containers, service meshes, micro-services, immutable infrastructure, and declarative APIs exemplify this approach. These techniques enable loosely coupled systems that are resilient, manageable, and observable. Combined with robust automation, they allow engineers to make high-impact changes frequently and predictably with minimal toil.

Cloud Native Working Group Charter

Focusing on the intersection of financial services and open source Cloud Native technology, Cloud Native Working Group will provide FINOS members guidance on adopting open source Cloud Native infrastructure on which to build and run scalable applications on these modern dynamic cloud environments.

The Cloud Native Working Group seeks to drive adoption of this paradigm by researching, building and maintaining a collection of white papers and use cases that help FINOS members adopting open source Cloud Native technologies.

The Cloud Native Working group will also curate and promote a FINOS Service Catalog for use with the Open Developer Platform (ODP). FINOS member developers will be able to test, build and push images to the FINOS Service Catalog so that they be easily used within the FINOS' ODP's OpenShift Console to test and develop applications that meet security, privacy, compliance, and governance requirements of today's financial institutions.

The Cloud Native working group will engage FINOS member organizations, to educate and understand their use cases and needs for software and services to make their entire container toolset more robust and ensure that they meet the strict security and compliance requirements of the Financial Industry. They will also evaluate additional projects for inclusion in the foundation and ensure that the overall toolset works well as a whole for the industry.
